Sponsor a Shabbat Service
| Chadeish Yameinu's policy
is never to turn away members who cannot
afford full membership dues. The flip side
of that commitment, of course, is the need
for those who can pay to step up, so our
services can be available to all who need
them. We've talked before about the reach
of CY's membership dues, which are not quite
enough to meet the full costs of Reb Eli's
compensation, let alone our services.
One way that members can perform this mitzvah
of accessibility with us involves sponsoring
services, a common practice in many congregations.
As an initial step, CY members have begun
t o sponsor Shabbat services. Sponsorship
involves $100 per service, and providing
the oneg afterward (1 bottle of kosher grape
juice, and a challah). In
return, sponsoring individuals receive both
the satisfaction of their good deed, and
public recognition and thanks during the
service and in CY's newsletter.
It is said that even as we have kept Shabbat,
Shabbat has kept the Jewish people. For
the price of a dinner out, members can perform
these important mitzvot with us. Interested
individuals should contact Shabbat coordinator
Batya Kagan at 419-6574.

Tree
of Life
Hanging
in the lobby of many modern synagogues, you will
find a "Tree of Life" naming those honored or
remembered, usually accompanied with substantial
donation ranging from $118-2500. In
honor of Tu B'Shevat, and through the generous
coordinated efforts of Thomas Witz, owner of Coastal
Evergreen Nurseries, with Jay and Tofah Eileen
Dravich, who own The Garden, Chadeish Yameinu
now also has a "Tree of Life!" Only ours is a
real living tree, planted in a very special and
serene place in The Garden, where we celebrate
Kabbalat Shabbat and a variety of other spiritual
events and where we are always welcome to come
for prayer, reflecting and restoration.
Our living "Tree of Life" is a 4-variety apple
graft, representing Four Worlds Judaism along
with the wonderful blend of diversity by which
we are so blessed. Ours is a young tree and, in
time, it will grow to dance in the sunlight and
wave in the wind, while providing shelter and
comfort. We will witness the birthing of blossoms
and leaves during Springtime and their shedding
as the Fall unfolds. We will feast, with honey,
on its fruits during Rosh Hashanah: A living tree,
growing hand-in-hand with our chavura. In time
and in spirit, may it help bring us one step closer
to Eden.
As with all living spirits, our tree needs your
support and nurturing. For a small donation to
the CY community ($18 or more), someone or some
ideal you wish to honor or remember will have
a perpetual leaf on the Chadeish Yameinu "Tree
of Life." When the dedication ceremony! takes
p lace in the Spring, all who donate will be invited
to write their inscription on an individual flat
stone and place it at the base of our tree.
Please find it in your hearts to embrace this
project and help sustain Chadeish Yameinu. In
doing so, you honor someone special, you honor
your chavura, you honor the Shekinah and all of
nature; and you truly honor yourself.

Many
people donate 10% of their yearly income to organizations
that provide for their spiritual wellbeing. In this
spirit, some members of our community have offered
to donate part of their earnings from sales made
to CY members to benefit the CY community. Is there
a way for you, too, to donate a percentage of your
income to CY if that income is made from customers
or clients who are CY members?
CY
members who currently donate a percentage of sales
made to CY members include:
Jay
Dravich, Realtor, will donate 50% of his
fee income to CY if you engage him to help you buy
or sell a home. Contact him at Century 21 Award
Real Estate, (831) 479-9278, or visit him at The
Garden.
Marigold
Fine, Full Circle Video Productions, will
donate 10% of any packages ordered or referred by
CY members for her "Story of a Lifetime Videos",
videotaped oral histories of elders, or anyone who
wants to share their story. Contact her at (831)
459-8300.
Julie
Lorraine
will donate 10% of the sales on her invitations
(sold through the Temple Beth El gift shop) for
Bar/ Bat Mitzvah celebrations and other events and
10% of her fee for event planning for families in
preparation for their child's Bar/ Bat Mitzvah.
Contact her at (831) 688-0888, or
